My review for Via Veneto – With a small and easy menu to follow, it was a good place to enjoy some Italian food with a beautiful ambience.
Despite some presentation and flavour issues, the overall experience was divine. The restaurant plans on obtaining their liquor license in the next few days with a new and improved menu, so I am sure my below comments will be a thing of the past.
The polpo alla griglia, or the grilled octopus, was interesting and the octopus arm was huge. The presentation of this dish could have been cleaner by cutting it into a few pieces as the large octopus arm sitting on the plate was overpowering. My favourite part of this dish was the sweet potato mash, as it was seasoned perfectly.
I was sad to see that the gamberi A.O.P, or known as the tiger prawns, was actually not tiger prawns at all. With the price listed on this dish, it would be too expensive to pay for regular prawns as that was what we received. The flavours on the shrimps were delicious nonetheless.
Finally, my favourite dish was the risotto al funghi, also known as the mushroom risotto. The risotto was creamy and soft, which was so tasty. The truffle oil brought out more flavours in the mushrooms. The garlic bread was too hard for my liking, and a pop of colour, such as adding green basil, would have made this dish more presentable, as it was all just grey.
This restaurant deserves a rating of 3.5/5.
I ordered the polpo alla griglia for 78DHS, gamberi A.O.P for 98DHS, risotto al funghi for 84DHS, and the fried artichokes for 42DHS.
The pricing of the dishes here were good except for the tiger prawns dish as it was too high for small shrimps that we had and they were definitely not tiger prawns.
The service that I received here was excellent where our server, Sam, was paying close attention to our table. He was great at recommending dishes and beverages. The beverages took a bit of time to come to the table, but the food came out in a decent amount of time, especially when it’s all fresh.
The ambience of this restaurant was wonderful with the familiar rustic Italian atmosphere. We sat outside since the weather is much more enjoyable here in Dubai. The view of the Burj Khalifa was visible and the beautiful palm trees on the street. Located near Manzil hotel, this is an easy place to get to.
