Mahec – Dubai

My review for Mahec – fine dining Indian cuisine is always something I like to experience as I do find the Indian flavours too much for my palate but when I dine in at these places, I appreciate it much more as it is more refined and toned down for locals and tourists.

The owner of the restaurant, who is also, the celebrity chef, served well known celebrities such as, Marilyn Monroe, and Bollywood star, Amitabh Bachchan, was the one who created the lovely dishes found here on the menu.

The chatakedar jhingar, also known as the tiger prawns starter was outstanding for the presentation but the prawns itself was slightly overcooked. The pink pepper corn marinade on it was delicious despite the bad cook on the prawns.

My favourite dish of the dinner would have to be the chakundari tikki, or known as the pan fried beetroot. The beetroot was pan fried with cottage cheese and garlic and topped with cashew nuts. It was just stunning for both the look of the dish and the taste of it. The beetroot flavours were present throughout every bite I took which was a good thing as it was basically the star of the dish.

The alleppy fish curry was good for the curry choice that I made for my main dish. I am not usually a fan of curry dishes, but this one was okay for me to get through my dinner. The curry was moderately spicy and did not have too many strong Indian spices so it was great. I would have liked it to be more spicy like the ones south Asians eat, but it was tasty nonetheless.

This restaurant deserves a rating of 4/5.

I ordered the chatakedar jhinga for 86DHS, chakundari tikki for 39DHS, alleppy fish curry for 92DHS, and the spicy cheese naan for 18DHS.

The pricing of the dishes here was higher for Indian food, but only because this was a fine dining place so the quality was a bit better.

The service was wonderful where the servers were always around to make sure that drink orders were fulfilled and that finished dishes were cleared right away for the next course to come out.

The ambience of the restaurant was gorgeous from the moment I approached it. The restaurant is located next to the Le Meridien Hotel, where there was their own beautiful pathway to each of the restaurants located here.
