My review for Stars N Bars – with a unique Californian vibes concept, this restaurant really amazed me with their decor and food. This is the first non hotel restaurant in Dubai to have a full bar with an alcohol display. Located in La Mer, this is the place to head to for a night out of drinks and entertainment, or just to have a lovely dinner on the lower level family dining area.
The salmon tataki was beautiful to look at when it came to the table and it looked so appetizing. The salmon was crusted and seared to perfection. I loved red jalapeno sauce that it was sitting on, where it complimented the salmon so well.
The pan seared scallops were excellent! The scallops were resting on a bed of polenta, and I absolutely loved the flavours of the polenta. The scallops were seared wonderfully and it just melted in my mouth.
I was impressed with the garlic prawns, as there was another component of this dish that I absolutely adored. The fried plantains underneath the prawns were a bite into heaven. I was so surprised as I forgot that plantains was in this dish, and it was such a nice surprise. The prawns had just the right amount of marinating on it and I am definitely ordering this dish again in the future.
The planked salmon was something different from what I usually order as I prefer salmon raw. The salmon was outstanding and was roasted at the perfect heat. The salmon was just right and not overcooked at all, which was a relief. The sweet potato mash was a nice addition to this main course.
Finally, the lobster spaghetti was memorable. Coming from Maine, the lobster thermidor was fantastic. The lobster meat was juicy and fresh. I didn’t have the pasta that came with it, as I am trying to cut back on carbohydrates, but my husband said that the spaghetti was just as good.
This restaurant deserves a rating of 5/5.
I ordered the salmon tataki, pan seared scallops, baja cod tacos, garlic prawns on fried plantains, planked salmon, and the lobster spaghetti.
The service that I received was marvelous for the first bit of dinner when it was not too busy yet. I came here on one of the grand opening launch nights, so I understood that the service slowed down a bit later.
The GM, Randolph, was an excellent host, where he personally gave us a tour of the whole restaurant, explaining the details on the unique decor.
Our server, Colin, was very attentive and worked hard to keep us happy throughout the whole dinner experience. He ensured that none of our orders were forgotten, and brought each drink on time.
The ambience of the restaurant was fascinating where every little piece of decor was made to match the Californian concept. The surfboards came directly from California, and I was impressed with the California State mural on the wall made entirely out of surfboard wax and unique labels.
This restaurant had two floors, where the top floor was for ages 21 and up only. This floor had a stage for live entertainment, a full bar with an alcohol display, various imported beers on tap, and indoor and outdoor seating.
The first floor had a dining area for families coming in with children and it is a more quiet area to have an intimate dinner. Walking further into the restaurant on this floor, you are exposed to a small entertainment area with a foosball table, arcade games, and a Volkswagen van serving ice cream.
