My review for Kona Grill – I got the chance to revisit this restaurant since the grand opening 6 months ago. I honestly did not like the experience that I had back then, but after visiting for lunch today, I had a much better experience.
With the head chef coming all the way from the award winning Kona Grill in the United States, he was confident with the new menu and after trying out the dishes, I definitely noticed a lot of changes that made it much more delicious.
I started my lunch off with the clam chowder and it was a very nice start. The clam chowder was thick and creamy with lots of clams present. The flavours were comforting and delicious.
The sashimi served here was different where it was elevated with jalapenos or wasabi. The jalapeno yellowtail sashimi was presented beautifully and the yellowtail itself was fresh. The jalapenos on top gave a hint of heat which I absolutely enjoyed.
I love poke bowls and it’s one of my favourite things to get when I’m at a westernized Japanese restaurant. The poke bowl here, however, was disappointing. When I first saw the poke bowl, I was a bit repulsed because the shrimp was super small and it did not look like a regular poke bowl that I’m used to. The rice was hard and there was barely any sauce to soften it.
Finally, I finished off my lunch with one of my favourite desserts – the key lime pie. The key lime pie was sweet with a bit of tangy and had the right amount of lime flavours.
This restaurant deserves a rating of 3/5.
I ordered the clam chowder for 35DHS, jalapeno yellowtail sashimi for 47DHS, salmon and naruto for 47DHS, salmon wasabi sashimi for 46DHS, shrimp poke for 46DHS, voodoo roll for 47DHS, and the key lime pie for 40DHS.
The pricing of the dishes here was affordable for great Japanese food with a view.
The service that I received here was great where the server was attentive and quick to cater to our needs.
I was just a bit disappointed when he brought out my husband’s main courses and forgot about mine. I had to ask him where my dishes were and I could tell that he forgot to ring them in as his reaction showed that. I had to wait a bit longer for the sushi chef to work on my order.
The ambience of this restaurant was lovely where it was right in front of the Dubai Creek in Al Seef in the Karama area.
The restaurant had two floors and we sat on the top level where the bar and tvs were located. There were large windows with the beautiful view of the creek.
