My review for Akiba Dori – I made my way to Dubai Design District or known as D3 for the second time since I’ve been here and now I noticed that many new restaurants opened up in this unique little area.
Akiba Dori was the restaurant I wanted to check out more closely as the cool Japanese ambience caught my eye. It really did remind me of the small street restaurants located in Tokyo with the vibrant colours and interesting characters.
I started my dinner with the calamari and akiba rock shrimps. The calamari was crispy where the marinade on the batter and calamari was just right. The akiba rock shrimps were creamy and delicious. I thought that the outer layer was a bit too thick, but once I got past that, the shrimps were great.
When I’m at a Japanese restaurant, I always get the sashimi. I chose the salmon sashimi which comes with 7 pieces per order. The salmon tasted like it was supposed to and there were no complaints. I loved the garnish presented with this dish where the carrots were shaped into a butterfly.
Seeing the amazing pizza station with a pizza chef, I knew I had to try one. With so many choices to choose from, I decided to go with the luigi-san. This pizza had tomatoes, smoked provola cheese, pecorino romano cheese, and basil leaves. The pizza dough was so thin and light, which made it that much more enjoyable for me.
Finally, I tried a few of the desserts and my favourite was the custard taiyaki. Taiyaki are deep fried waffles shaped into a fish with sweet filling. The custard filling was amazing and the waffles were fluffy.
This restaurant deserves a rating of 4/5.
I ordered the tofu wakame for 45DHS, tempura mix for 57DHS, calamari for 47DHS, akiba rock shrimps for 53DHS, salmon sashimi for 43DHS, luigi-san pizza for 61DHS, hakata cheesecake for 27DHS, and the nutella and custard taiyaki for 17DHS.
The pricing of the dishes here was just right for street style food.
The service that I received here was marvelous, where our server, Nick, was working his hardest to ensure that my husband and I were enjoying ourselves. He got our orders quickly and answered the questions that we had without any hesitation.
The food and drinks came out very fast and I was surprised as the restaurant was busy! This was a good thing as I can be impatient when I’m hungry.
The ambience of this restaurant was so cute and Japanese where the exterior of the restaurant was bright and lit up with Japanese signs. The cartoon characters were unique and once I headed inside, I was just as amazed with the AVA arcade games, bar, and pizza station.
